Do you need a toilet that will help you live off the grid?
Are you wanting a toilet that uses no electricity, no water, but is still 100% non-polluting?
What you’re going to want to consider owning then is the Sun-Mar Excel composting toilet. This product is a self-contained toilet that uses absolutely no water and no electricity so you can always have a place to go. It includes a variable diameter bio-drum as well so that processing compost is simple and straightforward. Best of all, you’ll be able to get this useful toilet for about the same price as today’s modern flush toilets that are the top of the line.
What Are the Features of the Excel Composting Toilet?
The primary feature that you’re going to enjoy with this particular toilet is the fact that it is specifically designed for medium to high capacity use. You’re going to be able to manage the waste of up to 3 people in a full-time residential setting with this toilet, or even up to 7 people if you’re planning a getaway to a cabin for the weekend. The entire unit is self-contained, and the venting kit for this toilet is included with the purchase price.
There are also these additional features to consider with this composting toilet:
- It includes a 4-inch venting kit that allows you to work on dispelling odors away from the unit.
- There is a step-up stool attachment that allows for easier access to the toilet seat with the extended size of the Bio-drum.
- Maintaining this toilet is simple and straightforward, although some care does need to be taken during the black water removal process.
As with any composting toilet, this isn’t going to be the primary solution for a modern home that is looking to upgrade from a flush to a composting toilet.
This product is primarily for a home that needs an outdoor latrine or has a place to run the venting to the outdoors so that you don’t receive odor feedback. If you can manage the venting, then you’ll enjoy this toilet.
Is There an Advantage to Using This Toilet?
If you’re living off the grid or homesteading, then you’ve likely got some version of an outhouse going on at your property if you’re looking at this review. This toilet will give you an advantage because the storage of the waste is easier to maintain, and the composting process is a lot faster. You’ll be able to reuse the compost within the same growing season easily with regular maintenance and without the difficulty of pumping out the outhouse pit.
We do wish that this Sun-Mar toilet was a bit sturdier in its overall construction. The step-up stool isn’t a particularly nice addition – a metal stool would be a better option, especially for larger folks. It feels unsteady at times as well, and that can sometimes create an awkward sitting situation when it’s time to go.
If, however, you’re looking for a cost-effective way to be off the grid and not need to worry about a septic system, then this is a toilet to consider. It works well, gets the job done consistently, and that’s why it earns our recommendation.
